If you are one of those people that subscribes to both Directv and Dish Network, it is possible to recieve programming from both services on one dish.
This setup will allow you to drive up to (4)DIRECTV receiver and up to (4)DISH NETWORK receivers from the single dish.
It will allow you to receive core and HDTV programming from both services.
It could also be useful if you subscribe to the Directv core programming, but also subscribe to some Dish programming, such as their extensive international offerings.
This situation will work if;
- You only need to receive programming from the core DIRECTV 101° satellite and the 119° satellite
- You only need to receive programming from the core DISH NETWORK 119° and 110° satellites.
If you require locals from DISH Network that are not available from the 119 or 110 satellites, you will need to add one more dish to this solution, which you can tie into the multi-switches.
This situation could appeal to people that do not like the look of a "dish farm" outside their home or apartment.
Para Todos dish, 2 LNBF's shown for 101 and 119, you will need an additional one.
What you will need:
- 1 - DirecTV 18" x 24" (3 satellite) "Para Todos" oval dish
- 2 - Directv-style DUAL (2 outputs each) LNBF's for oval dish (included)
- 1 - Additional Directv style DUAL LNBF (For 110°)
- 1 - 5x4 multiswitch (included with para todos kit)
- 2 - High Frequency Satellite 2-way signal splitters (do not use cable or TV splitters) with power pass on one output only.
- 1 - Dish Networks SW64 powered switch
- Lots of RG6 and F connectors to hook everything together
Right out of the box, the Para Todos dish is setup to receive the signals from the 101°, 110° and 119° satellites. The trickest part is wiring it all together so these switched signals can drive both Directv and Dish Network receivers. The above diagram gives you an idea of how its going to come together.
Note that the Para Todos 5 X 4 switch is the multiswitch that comes with our DirecTV oval dish kit. It has 5 inputs and 4 outputs.
The inputs are marked Sat A for the 101° satellite Sat B for the 110° satellite and Sat C for the 119° satellite. You will not be using the Sat B input, as the feed for this will be going to the Dish Network SW-64 Switch. Some Para Todos multiswitches are 4 X 4, meaning they are designed to receive 2 satellites. This will work as well as you will be using the Echostar switch for the 3rd satellite.
Each of the satellite's inputs is marked 13V and 18V. You must make sure that the splitter connected to the 18V connection is connected to 1B on the SW64 and that the 13V connection goes to 1A or it will not work correctly.
This is the "high frequency" 5-2300 Mhz satellite splitter that you need. (2 required) You will have to get these from an satellite/electronics store or radio shack. Also, the splitters you get have to be designed to pass DC power only on one leg of the split, as seen in the picture. Most of them are not like this. If you are stuck, they can be ordered from Accessorywarehouse.com DO NOT use a regular low frequency cable/antenna splitter as these won't work!!
This is a photo of an Para Todos 2 satellite "4X4 switch" which will work as well. This one has a Sat A for the 101° satellite and Sat B for the 119° satellite. If your system came with a 5 X 4 switch (Sat A, B and C) you will NOT use the Sat B input.
With the dish pointed away from you, the 3 LNBF's are 101(left), 110(center) and 119(right). You can mark them as such if required.
The 119° LNBF is the critical one, because it will be shared between the two systems. This is where you will connect the two high frequency splitters. Mark one of them 13V(DC-passing) and the other 18V(DC blocking). One output from EACH splitter will be going to each of the multi-switches. Each Sat input side requires a 13V and a 18V. Connect ONE of the 18V outputs to the Directv multi-switch. Connect the other 18V to the 1B input on the Dish Network multiswitch. Now connect one of the 13V outputs to the other side of the same Sat input on the Directv multiswitch. Connect the other 13V output to the 1A input on the Dish Network multiswitch.
Now, it is time to connect up the 110° LNBF. Both feeds will be going to the Dish Network system. If you have a 2 satellite Dish multi-switch (1A/b,2A/B) Connect both 110° LNBF outputs directly to the 2A and 2B inputs on the Dish Network multi-switch. However if you have a SW-64 switch which is a 3 satellite model, connect the 110° feeds to the 3A and 3B inputs.
Now you need to connect up the 101° LNBF. Both feeds will be going to the Directv system. Connect both the 101° satellite LNBF feeds to the Sat A inputs on the Directv multi-switch.
Now you just need to connect the multi-switch outputs to your receivers indoors. The Dish Network multi-switch outputs feed the Dish receivers and vice-versa for the Directv one. One output on each multi-switch drives one receiver and is connected directly the the SAT connection on the back of the receiver. Each multi-switch will power up to 4 receivers. If you don't have this many, you will have some left over outputs.
Depending on your audio/video equipment, you may need a switcher to switch back and forth between the DISH programming and the Directv one.
